Joyce must act to Save Invermay
The past week has seen three significant developments in the case to Save Invermay.
– On Saturday, the ODT exposed the botched cover-up of AgResearch’s business case. The longer business case for the restructure is unconvincing. $100 million in taxpayer money is being risked for uncertain returns.
– On Wednesday, Jock Allison released his survey of NZ Ram breeders showing across New Zealand 92% of the industry AgResearch serves – whether in Northland, Manawatu, Otago or Southland – want Invermay preserved.
– Later on Wednesday, close to 100 frustrated sheep and deer breeders packed out a meeting in Gore that first moved a motion requesting Invermay be expanded and extended with growth in genetics expertise – and then backed it up by calling on Minister Steven Joyce to launch an Independent inquiry into AgResearch’s restructure, including full exploration of the merits of an enhanced status quo option.
On Monday, I wrote a longer piece looking at the importance of Invermay to New Zealand’s future prosperity.
